Tucked away on Norby Road in Glasgow’s West End, 29 States Indian Cuisine offers a vibrant culinary journey through the subcontinent, celebrating the rich diversity of flavours from each of India’s 29 states. The 29 States Indian Cuisine Menu is an ambitious yet masterfully executed collection that showcases regional authenticity while elevating traditional dishes with refined presentation.
What immediately sets this menu apart is its thoughtful curation. Each section reflects the culinary identity of different regions-whether it's the fiery Chettinad chicken from Tamil Nadu, the creamy Rogan Josh hailing from Kashmir, or the lesser-known yet delightful bamboo shoot curries from the Northeast. The kitchen’s use of aromatic spices, slow cooking methods, and house-ground masalas results in dishes that are deeply flavourful without being overwhelming.
During my visit, the standout was the Goan fish curry-fresh, tangy, and perfectly balanced with coconut milk. Accompanying it was the fluffy garlic naan, charred just right. For vegetarians, the Rajasthani Gatte Ki Sabzi and Hyderabadi Bagara Baingan offered depth and variety rarely found outside India. Portions are generous, and spice levels can be tailored to suit different palates, which makes it accessible for both spice enthusiasts and those newer to Indian cuisine.
The ambience of the restaurant is equally inviting, with warm lighting and modern Indian decor that adds a layer of sophistication to the dining experience. Service is knowledgeable and eager to guide guests through the lesser-known menu items.
In a city with plenty of Indian restaurants, 29 States stands out for its commitment to regionalism, quality ingredients, and elegant execution. Whether you're a seasoned connoisseur or exploring Indian food for the first time, this menu is a delicious and educational experience that goes far beyond the standard curry house fare.
